Alexa gave me the idea to write a blog so you girls know what I’m up to, and seeing that I already have one, I figured that would be a good idea. I’ll just update you on how Rhode Island is, and what all I’ve done. I just miss you girls so much, by the way! Haha.

The People: There is a TON of Dominican people here, and they are actually really rude. It’s funny because they are super loud. I work with a bunch of Dominicans and they are yelling ALL day, and they are always asking me why I have no energy. “Uhhh, I have energy. You just yell about everything.” Also, their Spanish is SO different. It’s horrible.

The Environment: Obviously it’s still the USA, so it’s not much different. Except that it’s like SO beautiful. There are trees EVERYWHERE. It’s SO green, and where Matthew lives the ocean is SO close. It literally is like right outside of his barracks. The town where Matthew lives is called Newport, and it’s a really cute ocean town where everything closes at like 8 o’clock and there are adorable shops and delicious restaurants. It’s just a cool place to be.

Being With Matthew: I have always been the one in KARM who reads the least, but it feels like since December I was reading the book, and now I’m watching the movie. Haha. Every weekend he would go to IHOP with one of his shipmates, and we went there this weekend, and I felt like it was famous. It’s just so cool to explore and go out together. I do get nervous about when we go back to long distance because it’s going to be really hard to go from being together every day to every couple months. I was freaking out about it for a while, but I decided to just live in the moment, and not worry about that because it won’t change anything. I am falling pretty hard for him though. J

Well, I will continue to keep you updated. I love you girls so much, and miss you even more. J

UNC Basketball

I'm not sure if anyone outside of Colorado has been watching to see how well UNC has been doing in Men's Basketball, but man, we're doing AWESOME! The games are so much fun now that we're doing well! ALOT of people are coming to the games, even kids from CSU and CU! The games are probably one of the more fun times here at the University because there is so much school spirit in the gym that I want to "FEAR THE CLAW!" :D My cousin came from CSU to this game, he's the boy, and my good friend Kay is with me in the picture. Her and I are rooming together next year!

Sorority Sister!?

This weekend I drove to Fort Collins because I have a friend who goes to CSU over there! We decided to go to the Cork, which is a club in Fort Collins. There was a Sorority Party on Friday night for the Non-Traditional Sororities, which were mainly Latin groups. The girls were so cute because they had this little chant that they would shout whenever they wanted. Being at their party made me want to join a sorority! I don't think I would be cut out for their lifestyle, but I just want to be able to do that chant!

Although UNC prides itself on the delicious cuisine, sometimes I beg to differ. I have had dinner at Tobey-Kendall probably 100 times thus far, and I must say, it’s not the best. There are two dining halls on campus, and Holmes is the best one on campus, but that one is FAR away from my dorm. This dish is supposed to be chicken teriyaki. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT?!? I pay $9 a meal, c’mon UNC feed me goodness!

Valentines Day

Valentines day is today, and although it is sometimes a nice little holiday, I'm not feelin' it this year. My boyfriend and I broke up recently, so it's just weird. I did, however, see the movie Valentines Day, and it was decent. A little corny if you ask me, but none the less it was cute. Rudy who is a very good friend of mine, gave me this really cute frog for valentines day. Froggle Woggle is more of an inside joke than anything, but it was really cute to get him. Nice to have wonderful friends to cheer you up. :]

I have come to find that school is harder than I thought it would be. After break I just did not really want to come back, because 4 weeks off was REALLY nice. It seems like now school is so much more work than it was first semester. I know I'm just being a baby, and it really isn't as bad as I feel it is, but sometimes, school is just lame. :D

Weekend! Thank goodness because this week has been pretty rough. I have mostly just been doing some work lately. Hittin' the books, if you will. ;] My spanish class is ROUGH, and I must say that I embarrass myself in that class on a daily basis. That class is EVERYDAY so I feel like I'm in High School again, except for its not an hour and forty minutes, thank God! I'm going to a hip-hop concert tomorrow, so that should be interesting. I'll post a good photo or two. ;]

Get it? It's like the catchy rock and roll song! haha well school is in and I'm liking it so far. Waking up early is yet again a struggle. Those 8 o'clock classes kill me 89% of the time! Anyways, I'm taking a full schedule plus more. I am taking 16 credits which is a little intimidating, but hey this is my job. I have been so used to no homework or WORK for that matter that it is tough to get back into the rhythm! :D well I will update y'all soon!

Goodness gracious, finals are over! It was a pretty tough week. I did pretty well, though! For expecting college to be the most difficult adventure to be taken, I didn't do too shabby. I ended with a 3.29 GPA, so I guess that's not the best, but it certainly isn't the worst. The week after finals, I seriously slept for the first day, and for the following couple days, I was brain dead. It's nice to just relax and be home. I missed by family TREMENDOUSLY!

Oh man, Finals are coming! :/ I am STRESSING out over my Government final. This has been the toughest class of my educational career, besides cross-multiplying. ;) Anyways, here I am in Starbucks, as I write, and I am studying for the Political Science final. Goodness! What in the world is Pork Barrel Legislation?!? Anyways, thank God for study buddies. I will DEFINITELY be utilizing my study buddy this week, and I feel sorry for him. :D I will post next week after the final stress is over!

In my First Year Experience, a class for freshman to make the transition easier, we are making a video of our first semester in college. Although this class seems quite pointless sometimes, it has fun projects! So we have been searching throughout our entire campus trying to record different Freshman and get their comments on their first semester. I mentioned me being a first generation student, and there is a special organization for students who are first generation to be apart of. The Center for Student Enrichment, CHE, is the program that gathers UNC's first generation kids to enroll in classes together and make college a lot more fun! This video is through my CHE First Year Experience class. We took this picture to show how awesome CHE can be! :D In other words, "If you join CHE, you too can have a fun time jumping around the hallways of UNC!" haha, hopefully I can upload the final video on here! You guys can see what I've been doing for the past couple of days! :P

In my Residence Hall we have free laundry! Which is awesome, because at most Universities you have to pay like $1.50 per load. I’m very thankful to have free laundry; however, people are so ghetto in this hall! I have a terrible memory; about two weeks ago after I put a load in I realized that I left my fabric softener downstairs. I turned right around to go grab it and guess what? It was GONE! I was so upset because hey, that stuff is like four dollars a box! Considering I’m a college kid, four bucks adds up! Yesterday I got done putting my whites in the washer, and I was in my room for two minutes when I realized that I left my bleach in the laundry room. I literally ran downstairs, and guess what? GONE! I was so livid at this point. Come on, guys! Don’t steal my stuff! :(

Daylight Savings & Snow Days

I love Daylight savings so much! Here on campus it’s so nice because we ALL get an extra hour of sleep, which make our days happier! I have come to realize that everyone was right when they said I would get less sleep in college! In high school I would go to bed at like 10 and wake up at 6. I’ve always been a morning person. But now in college it is SO hard to make it to my 8 o’clock class. Especially now that it’s cold outside! It has been snowing so much, which is awesome.

Speaking of snow, last week there was a snow day! It was so awesome; everyone was stuck in the dorm so we were running around. 98% of people in my dorm had not showered before 6 o’clock at night; I promise. All of my professors live out of town; which is weird. Their commute from Boulder or Fort Collins would have been horrific had they tried to make it to class. I’m always thankful for snow days and daylight savings! :D

Halloween is tomorrow! I really have no big plans, because I’m not your typical crazy college kid! Last night my hall had a Halloween dance party! I was Mario! So I would just like to take the time to discuss the ridiculously revealing outfits girls today wear. I mean, come on! We have turned Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz into this prostitute with red, glittery stilettos. I was reading articles about how Halloween costumes are getting worse throughout the years, and I really think they are. We now have provocative costumes for girls who are only 8 years old! We need to cover up the lady lumps because that is how sexual assault charges are pressed on this holiday. Come on ladies! :D

Single Mama

This week I have been house sitting because my parents went to Oregon/Seattle for a little vacation/business trip. I feel like a single mother! At home I have my two brothers and my dog, Gracie; never have I wasted so much gas in my lifetime! I feel like all I do is drive! :D During the school week the earliest I wake up is at about 7:30; this whole week I have to be up by 6:15 in order to get the boys up and ready for school. Goodness gracious, next mothers day I will definitely get my mom a better gift!

I have also had two midterms this week! :/ Man, midterms are so stressful! In High School my teachers would give me detailed study guide on what to study for the test; college doesn’t have those. You are just expected to know the Chapters we have read this semester so far. I took my Government final and my History final, and studied day in and day out for them! So I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

SIFE Induction!

Tonight I was inducted into SIFE! It was a nice little ceremony; SIFE is an acronym for “Students In Free Enterprise.” We had a half hour ceremony in the College of Business to induct us into the club so that we may become actual SIFE members! How exciting!! I was in DECA in high school, so SIFE feels like home.

Last weekend was Homecoming! My friend Kay and I went to the Homecoming dance together and met up with a bunch of other girls. It was actually WAY fun! I thought it would only be the nerdy little freshman going to the dance, but there were some pretty cool people! :D The bonfire was SO cold, but I'm sure you can tell from the photo! The school provided hot chocolate for all of the students, and I would say there were about 300-350 kids there. Well guess how many cups the school provided for the abundant amount of hot cocoa? 100 cups for ALL of the students! Maybe we were supposed to share, as a sign of unity within the school? ;)

This weekend should be fun; I’m hanging out here with my roommate. Having a nice little slumber party. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Homecoming Week

Today we are supposed to have the first snowfall of the year. Tonight there will be a bonfire/pep rally! My High School never had bonfires because there was no school spirit, so this will be the first bonfire I have ever been to!

I went to a comedian on Monday night; his name was Jeff Dye, and I guess he was from The Last Comic Standing. Tomorrow night is the Homecoming dance; I didn’t even know they had dances in college, so that means it’s probably a freshman thing to go to. But I’m definitely going. :]

There have been midterms this whole week, and I have just been stressed out! It feels like studying is all I do, but then I realize that I definitely do fun things throughout the week. So I am NOT always studying, it just feels that way. I’m having so much fun while I’m here; there should be no stress. As long as I get my work done, I can have as much fun as I can handle! As for now, I will be reading my sociology book, drinking my coffee, and waiting for the snow. :]

Woah, College!

College! Woohoo! This is so brand new and different. I’ve never been out of my house for more than a week, and today it has been two weeks! Before I jump into my new college life; let me introduce myself, so my name is Marrisa Flores. I am a freshman at UNC this year, and I want to major in Business Marketing. I am a first generation student, which means I am the first person in my family to go to college, so it has been a big adventure.

This first week has been pretty fun! Being on my own is so different from what I am used to. Living in the dorm is great; it’s nice to meet people around you all the time! The food is good; we have two dining halls and I’m right next to the not-so-good hall. :/ It’s okay because food is food!

Feel free to ask questions any time! I’d love to chat especially because I’m going through the first couple weeks of my first year of college, so I can answer any questions!
